Alfredo de Daninos (1848-1928), an important manager of the Riunione Adriatica di Sicurtà (RAS), commissioned in 1905 a monument by the sculptor Enrico Cassi (1863-1913) following the death of his son Arnoldo at the age of 27, to replace the simpler burial of the daughter Ada who died at 22 years of age in 1898. “Arnoldo, angelically good / deeply eternally mourned” was added to the epitaph “Alba / You passed / fragile pilgrim on earth / the way a gentle pious impetus passes through the heart of a sad person”.
Alfredo’s father, Alessandro born in Livorno in 1810 and deceased in Trieste in 1883, was one of the founders of the RAS and its general manager and was named knight of the Iron Crown by the Emperor of Austria.
The monument is in Carrara marble and Botticino stone and represents in Liberty style the souls of the two brothers who gather after death welcomed by a large angel. A lunette in the background depicts eternal life.
